Hackathon

Hackathon järjestetään 6.-8.2. Helsingissä Aalto Media Factoryssa. Avajaisviikonlopun aikana aloitetaan projektien suunnittelu ja työstö.

Trackit

– Bring to life!

Herätä ihmiset ja historia eloon! Avatuissa kulttuuriaineistoissa on kuvattuna paljon ihmisiä, yksin tai erikseen, sama henkilö eri tilanteissa tai eri ikäisenä, kenties eri asussa, arkena tai juhlien pyörteissä, kotonaan tai matkalla vierailla mailla – tee heistä jälleen eläviä!

Kuinka esimerkiksi Akseli Gallen-Kallela muuntautuu pojanklopista aikamieheksi? Kuinka joku historiallinen henkilö on kuvattu urheilemassa, ateljeekuvassa, sukujuhlissa, maalatussa muotokuvassa tai postimerkin aiheena? Miten herrojen viiksimuoti on kehittynyt trendien seuratessa toisiaan?

Bring people and history to life! Among the open cultural heritage data people are often portrayed in photographs and images, whether alone or in company, at different ages and in different situations, dressed in various ways, living ordinary days or celebrating, at home or on journeys to faraway lands – make them come to life again!

How does Akseli Gallen-Kallela evolve from a young boy to a grown man? How is a historical person portrayed doing sports, in a studio photograph, at a family gathering, in a portrait painting or pictured in a stamp? What has been en vogue at different times in terms of gentlemen’s moustache?

You may take as your lead portraits in the perspective of time – pictorial time series. Or, you may invent your own way to tackle the material and put some hustle into historical characters! Combine, for example, sound, maps, newspaper data or landscapes into your ideas, making use of various material.

Merellistä nostalgiaa

Suomen merimuseon kuvakokoelmien FÅA-Silja Linen alakokoelma tarjoaa kurkistuksia matkustajalaivoihin aina 1800-luvun lopulta 1960-luvun alkuun.

The Open Storytelling Challenge

Finnish archives and museums are opening their video archives and we are looking at ways to play around with them, to see what we can come up with in three days. We want to challenge you to find interesting stories and create new concepts e.g. in the form of games, interactive websites or films, using the material provided to us by over 20 Finnish archives and museums.

The goal is to develop tools that blur the border between storytelling and games using the material provided by the archives.

Game designers, filmmakers, editors, coders, sound designers, graphic designers, artists, architects, journalists, archive enthusiasts, music composers and media artist. We welcome anyone who is intrigued by the new ways of telling stories, in a digital format.

Before the hackathon you should take a look at the archives and come up with something you want to do with the material. You don’t necessarily have to come with your own idea, but it helps if you have at least thought about how you would answer these 3 questions before the weekend:

  • CONTENT/NARRATION – Which story would you extract or create from the archive material?
  • INTERACTION – Which way can I present this archive material to make it challenging/interesting/playable/compelling…?
  • PRESENTATION – What kind of audio and visual world would you create around the archive material?
