(1) Could I copy a book via Finna.fi / send its content to my printer, for my private use, utilizing @MyData right2copy for private use, by Findy.fi / Sisu ID?
Leveraging Copyright Act’s Section 12: “Reproduction for private use (1) Anyone may make single copies for his private use of a work that has been made public. The copies thus made may not be used for other purposes.(2) It is also permitted to have copies made by a third party for the private use of the party ordering the copies.”
(2) If such API doesn’t exist for everyone (to access book’s content for printing, via book ISBN in Finna.fi) – could I utilize my right2copy it as Visually Impaired Person, per Marrakesh Treaty for VIP?
Celia doesn’t offer printing service, and doesn’t offer private access to public domain book content. I wish to use my own (@MyData cooperative-owned) printer.
Hi Vladimir. I suggest you contact Finna support to ask for the availability of full-text resources and whether such resources are available through the Finna API. That will depend also on the applicable copyright. For the second question, I am afraid we are not in a position to give legal advice. I hope this helps!
I am not from Finna and my point of view is just a user point of view. Finna is central metadata database but it doesn’t host actual content. The host organizations (like libraries, universities, museums etc) itself decide what they send to Finna’s metadata index. This data can include a link to full-text version of the text (like thesis works), but there is no unified or defined format for the files. It is just link to the digital version of the file and filetype information.
