Competition

As part of the Hack4FI – Hack your heritage! 2016 we will organise a competition that brings forward and celebrates the works created from Finnish and Nordic open cultural heritage materials.

All works and concepts developed in the hackathon are already part of the competition. However, we encourage you to further your projects to ensure your succeed in the competition. In addition to the participants of the Hack4FI – Hack your heritage! hackathon all creative minds all around the world can take part in the competition with their project. The only criteria is that the submitted works should make use of open cultural data or content with a Finnish or Nordic origin.

The competition is open for designs, artworks and services in various stages e.g. concepts, prototypes or working products; we are looking for innovative solutions that creatively re-use open cultural data and show a potential in creating value for the society at large.

Tracks

The competition has various tracks that follow the structure of the hackathon. You can submit your work in the following categories:

There is furthermore an open category. If your work falls into several categories,  you should select all you find applicable. The track facilitators and the members of the jury will make the final decisions on which works to award in each category.

The Creative Ring Challenge

The Hack4FI – Hack your heritage! competition 2016 is not a serious prizefight – it is an opportunity to showcase your work, receive feedback from your peers and experts and maybe find a partner who could facilitate or finance your work further. For example, in the Creative Ring Challenge Helsinki track you can win up to 50.000 euros to develop your idea further. The requirements are that the solution has business potential and you are using at least one FIWARE enabler in your work.

Please note that if you are submitting to the Creative Ring Challenge Helsinki track you need to provide additional information of your project and team using the Creative Ring Challenge form in addition to adding the project in the HackDash (see guidance below).

Works will be evaluated by a jury that comprises of professionals from several fields. The Creative Ring Challenge will also have additional experts to evaluate the business potential and the value promise of the projects submitted to the track.

Submission guidelines

The competing Hack4FI – Hack your heritage! projects must be added to the HackDash. Most of the hackathon projects are already there, but you can also add new ones and edit the existing ones.

Submit your work by adding a new project (or edit an existing one) in the Hack4FI – Hack your heritage HackDash and naming it according to the name of your work. This will be your “portfolio” containing all the information you wish to present on your work. The required information are:

  • Your name/Names of team members and contact details of a contact person
  • Short description of the work (max 250 words)
  • Links to pictures/screenshots of the work
  • A link to the final work, demo and/or other relevant materials online
  • A “Hack4FI 2016” tag in the “Tags” area

Please remember also to add all the relevant tags in the “Tags” field according to the tracks that you consider your work belonging to: Art & Design, Data visualisation, Digital Humanities, Digital Storytelling, Education, Nordic, Digital Fabrication, Creative Ring Challenge and/or Open. Please remember to add the “Hack4FI 2016” tag as well!

Please bear in mind that less is more. Remember also to edit only your own project information.

Timetable

You can update your project information in the HackDash up to the submission deadline March 31st 2016. After that we ask you not to make any changes as the members of the jury and other participants of the competition will be evaluating your work.
